In 2024, the five-day festival of Diwali will start from October 31 and will continue till November 4. Here is the information about each day:

1. Dhanteras (31 October 2024, Thursday)

Significance: Dhanvantri, the god of wealth and health, and Goddess Lakshmi are worshiped on the day of Dhanteras. On this day, there is a tradition of buying new items for prosperity and health in the house.

Muhurat: The auspicious time of Dhanteras Puja is during the evening Pradosh Kaal, which will be around 17:57 to 20:27.

Vidhi of worship: There is importance of buying gold, silver, utensils or other new things on this day. In the evening, worship Dhanvantri Dev by lighting a lamp in the house.

2. Narak Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali) (1 November 2024, Friday)

Significance: Narak Chaturdashi is called Chhoti Diwali. This day is celebrated as Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasura. Abhyanga bath and Yama Puja have special significance on this day.

Muhurat: The auspicious time for Abhyanga bath is before sunrise, which is suitable between 05:00 and 06:00 in the morning.

Vidhi of Puja: On this day, take a bath before sunrise and light a lamp and worship the gods and goddesses. Worship Yamraj and offer him a lamp.

3. Deepawali / Lakshmi Pujan (2 November 2024, Saturday)

Significance: On the day of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, and Kuber Devta are worshipped. This festival mainly symbolizes prosperity, happiness and splendor.

Lakshmi Pujan Muhurat:

Pradosh Kaal: 17:57 PM to 20:27 PM

Puja Vidhi:

After cleaning the house, place the idol of Lakshmi-Ganesh on a clean stand.

Offer them water, flowers, incense, lamps, akshat, fruits, sweets etc.

Chant the mantra “Om Mahalakshmyai Namah” to welcome Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and grains, and perform aarti with the family.

Light lamps and illuminate every corner of the house for happiness, prosperity and peace in the house.

4. Govardhan Puja / Annakoot (3 November 2024, Sunday)

Significance: On this day, Lord Krishna protected the people of Gokul by lifting the Govardhan mountain. It is also called Annakoot festival.

Muhurat: The auspicious time for Govardhan Puja is during Pradosh period.

Vidhi:

Establish a symbolic Govardhan mountain in the courtyard of the house.

Worship Lord Krishna and Govardhan mountain and offer Annakoot (offering of dishes).

Serving cows and feeding them has special significance on this day.

5. Bhai Dooj (4 November 2024, Monday)

Significance: Bhai Dooj is a festival to celebrate the unbreakable love and affection of brother and sister. The sister worships for the long life and happiness of her brother.

Muhurat: The auspicious time for Bhai Dooj is throughout the day, especially on the second date.

Vidhi:
The sister applies tilak to her brother and performs his aarti.

Special mantras are chanted to wish for the long life and happiness of the brother.
The brother gives gifts to his sister and blesses her.
